A handful of Senate Democrats vying for the presidency are rallying around Democratic New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen in an effort to eliminate a law that prevents college students from voting in the Granite state unless they are permanent residents.
Sheehan reached out to the 2020 hopefuls on Monday to sign a petition “protecting the integrity of New Hampshire’s voting process” by allowing university students residing in the state during their schooling to vote in elections, despite permanently residing in other states.
The petition is in response to a recent law that requires out-of-state residents, such as college students, to obtain a state driver’s license and register their vehicles within 60 days of casting an election ballot, reported The Hill. The law is set to go into effect in July.
“[Young people] are being disenfranchised by photo ID requirements, arbitrary challenges to residency, and unfounded allegations of fraud,” Sheehan wrote. “This new law, by effectively creating a poll tax on college students, is just the latest attempt to undermine America’s constitutionally-protected right to vote.”
Hours after Sheehan sent out the open letter, several 2020 presidential contenders responded in support of the petition.
“Our democracy is strongest when voters have the freedom to head to the ballot box to make their voice heard,” tweeted Democratic New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand. “The efforts of [New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu] to restrict this right for tens of thousands of students is unconscionable. I strongly support efforts to amend and repeal this bill.”
“Students are the ones who will have to deal with the decisions lawmakers make for decades to come—protecting their right to vote is paramount,” Democratic New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker said. “Thank you, [Shaheen] for leading the fight in New Hampshire to protect student voters. I’m proud to support this fight.”
Democratic California Sen. Kamala Harris also tweeted her support and echoed Shaheen by saying that the aforementioned law is “voter suppression” and is “intended to disenfranchise college students from exercising their right to vote.”

“I stand w/ [Shaheen] opposing voter suppression in New Hampshire & across the country. The last time I checked people don’t want to give up their freedom to vote,” tweeted Democratic Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar. “We could make it even easier if we passed my bill to register every eligible young person when they turn 18!”

This is exactly what goes on in Burlington with all the college students up there. Bernie campaigned there years ago. That started all of our elections to be skewed. I do not think any out of state college students should vote in our elections. The number of students just in Burlington represent about 3% increase to our population during the school year. I wonder what the total for the state is? Maybe very scary..
Absentee ballots are not hard to get, students can vote in their home state and not have an influence in N.H. We all know that young students vote Democrat.
I’m confused. Folks in New Hampshire who are legal residents in another state, college students for example, have a right to vote in the state in which theh have legal status. All they have to do is apply for an absentee ballot. That’s what they are for. Bingo! Problem solved. Now let’s get real, the Dems want the college vote because they believe it favors them.

Sheehan has NO integrity. Perhaps Chucky Schumer told what to say.
I thought that NH was pretty level headed but like every other state the roaches in
the political left wants to keep the lead so lets let everyone vote !!
If your not a legally registered citizen of that state, being verified by two forms of ID
driver license, or some other form of a photo ID and a utility bill showing residence
pretty simple ……………. but wait that would mean fewer votes for Liberals !!

It’s shocking how fast the landscape is changing in the one Republican holdout in the northeast. The Democrats can be the human equivalent of locusts, decimating things in their path.
I don’t think NH can hold out for much longer. The last stand in NE and it’s going to fall sooner or later.
You would think after 2 years of Russia Russia Russia even the leftards would be a little leary
of polluting the vote. But nope, illegals, non citizen, students, criminals, 16yold, are all headed
to the polls in leftist land. Taking away the vote of deserved tax paying citizens who have to
live with the choice.
I guess the crack down on dead votes and ballot stuffed trunks of vote officials is taking it’s toll.
I agree that the college students will be voting twice. Jeanne Shaheen wants the liberal Democrat college kids to vote twice right after they kill their full term baby.
…and there is nothing that would stop them from voting twice. Once in NH and a second time in their home state. — this kind of corruption is what led to the Civil War. You know the one where Lincoln invaded the south and two years after he started it, said it was about slavery, right after there were draft riots across the north…
