Brattleboro schools to back controversial Black Lives Matter movement with flag hoisting

BRATTLEBORO — At the request of several students, the Black Lives Matter flag will be hoisted on flagpoles at Brattleboro Union High School, Brattleboro Area Middle School and the Windham Regional Career Center on May 4, which is Diversity Day in Brattleboro.

“This is totally student driven,” Ricky Davidson, chairman of the BUHS #6 School Board, told the Reformer on Tuesday. “As a school board member and an adult in the community, I am glad to give them a voice and give them an opportunity to speak and be heard.”

Davidson said that after the presentation by the students Monday night, the board voted unanimously to allow the raising of the flag. “Everyone agreed that it was appropriate to fly at the schools,” he said.

The board first heard about the proposal at its April 2 meeting, when three students from BAMS, with the support of principal Keith Lyman, asked for permission to fly the flag.

  1. So when are you Brattleboro residents going to vote out that school board? You know that is THE ONLY ANSWER.

  2. Parents , take your kids out of these left leaning (S holes) they aren’t teaching your
    kids anything worth while.

If a school supports thug related organization like BLM, the ones running these schools
should be fired … This isn’t an education it’s an indoctrination. Any school board that
supports these fringe culture groups. Well they be gone also!!

The flag pole at public schools is for the US Flag, period.

  3. Vermont schools celebrate a racist organization! Why am I NOT surprised? I have a Police-Firefighter Lives Matter flag that I’d be happy to donate. I wonder whether they’d fly that?

  4. Very foolish, very naïve, very uneducated, very uninformed and very dangerous are these stupid….stupid teachers in honoring these terrorist, cop killers. What fools. What idiots.. What Democrats.

    • Let me add….Parents: Yank your kids out of these public cesspools that are polluting your kids’ minds. They don’t educate; they indoctrinate. Home school, send your kids to private school. Take out a loan if you have to, but save your children and their future. As a parent, it is your responsibility to protect them.

      • Amen to that. I totally agree that home schooling is a brilliant move at this point in time. Supporting the violent BLM movement makes no sense at all – especially when there are very few black people even living in Vermont. The ones that are here are the source of most of your drug problems.Today’s kids are almost completely brain dead and have no ability to make rational decisions. We can thank our completely failed public education system. I’m not even going to get into the movement to FORCE people to take dangerous vaccines just to go to public schools…….its insanity.

  5. So if ‘several students’ request to fly the NRA flag, the school will accommodate that request too – right?

      • Those kids would be called out as potential terrorists; the school would call in the police; they would be escorted off school grounds and expelled. And I am SERIOUS! It is happening elsewhere to kids who go to shooting ranges with their fathers!!!! Those people, those teachers, are seriously twisted.

    • Zeke, ya got me rolling on the floor laughing. NRA flag??? There’s a much better chance of a planned abortion flag flying. The poor morons in Bratt can relate to killing the unborn, or partially born than to all those ‘gun nuts’ that keep their butts safe every day.
      CARRY ON.
