Brattleboro Union High School students demand change on guns

BRATTLEBORO — Students received cheers as soon as they stepped outside the high school Wednesday to stand in solidarity with the victims of the school shooting in Parkland, Fla., and call for stricter gun laws.

“We are all here today because we are demanding change,” Lucia Morey, one of the three students who led the walkout at Brattleboro Union High School, told a crowd gathered at the entrance. “We do not feel safe inside our schools. This is why we are walking out today. We want to be clear about how serious we are about the change we demand. Children are dying.”

Protests planned as part of #ENOUGH National School Walkout in about 3,000 schools throughout the United States lasted 17 minutes in honor of the 17 victims killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14. The student-led initiative in support of the #NeverAgain movement organized by students in Parkland looking for “common sense gun laws” welcomed community members to participate.

  1. Well now that they got that out of their system, they can go have a joint and snack on some Tide Pods.

  2. Don’t they know that the bill of rights lists individual rights that aren’t subject to mob rule?

  3. Gene Bifano and Tom Chase really hit the nail on the head. These kids make excellent followers.
I can see some Charley Manson’s coming out of the woodwork.

  4. Again evidence is clamoring for restricting gun ownership for those under the age of 21, as is for alcohol. Reason being the lack of maturity and reasoning. One would think that if they’re not mature or responsible enough to own weapon or drink alcohol – that we should perhaps consider restricting the most powerful weapon they hold. The right to vote.
Theses school demonstrations prove the point don’t they? The demonstrations show they are don’t understand the issues or the facts. They are easily manipulated with simple slogans.
One would think if they were that concerned about their safety they would demand the legislature restrict their right to drive. Over 2,000 kids under the age of 19 die yearly in care crashes with another 200,000 visits to the ER. As sad a stat their is 138 kids under the age of 19 where killed in school shootings since Stony Brook.

  5. Where is parental guidance? It’s a parent / kid issue, NOT public / Gov school system involvement.
Why were the Socialists agitators allowed to contact the kids, corrupting their minds? Snowflake kids are very susceptible to indoctrination. This is part of the Geo Soros machine.

I had a relationship with my kids, they knew about guns and the respect for them at a young age. Not now-a-days.

These outside agitators are poisoning the young minds (greater numbers) and are more dangerous than any killer. They are the automatic weapon. I’m surprised reading the Reformer article in total how many “adults / teachers / gov officials” gave blessings to the kids. Makes you wonder who are the adults. The “adults” need to have the kids learn about the State Constitution, US Constitution, Bill of Rights, US History, all 85 Federalists Papers, writings that led to the Constitution, Magna Carter that led to the Constitution. Go to military cemeteries, Vietnam Memorial, see who sacrificed for them. They need to see first hand about this country and not be emotionally educated by crapologists seeking destruction of the country and their way of life.

The Education system is dismanteling the family structure and values (if parents had any).

  6. To bad that the students aren’t protesting about people with mental problems who aren’t getting the help that they need.

  7. These students all over the nation made it easier for a school shooting to take place.
They made it very public of the time and date that they would walk out. Making it harder for the schools to protect them. I’m actually rather surprised nothing happened.

  8. Assault Rifle Definition: “any of various intermediate-range, magazine-fed military rifles (such as the AK-47) that can be set for automatic or semiautomatic fire.” An AR-15 CANNOT be legally set at “automatic.” Not that it matters to the anti-Second Amendment crowd, but automatic weapons have been banned for sale in this country since, I believe, 1934. The Left’s definition of assault rifle is any BLACK gun that looks frightening and fires a single bullet every time the trigger pulled. Morons.
