Congressional ‘climate change’ report relies on work funded by the Democrats’ largest donor

By Michael Bastasch

Congressional auditors released a report on the “potential economic effects of climate change” relied heavily on research funded, in part, by a foundation tied to the Democratic Party’s single largest political donor.

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a major report on the future impacts of global warming. Sens. Maria Cantwell of Washington and Susan Collins of Maine asked GAO to do the report.

Tom Steyer was the single largest political donor in the 2016 election cycle, contributing more than $91 million to Democrats and liberals.

GAO’s report relied on interviews with 26 unnamed experts and two studies to make its recommendation that federal agencies use information on future global warming to “take an initial step in establishing government-wide priorities to manage such risks.”

The media is already trumpeting the report as a repudiation of the Trump administration. The Associated Press claimed “Climate change already costing U.S. billions, GAO report says,” and The Los Angeles Times reported Trump’s inaction on climate change carries a big price tag, federal report finds.”

However, one of the studies GAO relied, called the American Climate Prospectus, was funded in part by the the Risky Business Project, which is in turn backed by a foundation founded by former hedge fund billionaire Tom Steyer.

The American Climate Prospectus was put out by the Rhodium Group in 2014. Rhodium Group analysts put out an updated version of their climate study in June 2017.

Steyer was the single largest political donor in the 2016 election cycle, contributing more than $91 million to Democrats and liberals, according to the Center for Responsive Politics (CRP).

Steyer gained notoriety funding anti-fossil fuel campaigns, starting with his opposition to the Keystone XL oil pipeline. Steyer also founded NextGen Climate Action, which was created to making global warming a top tier election issue.

Most recently, Steyer has pumped money into a campaign to impeach President Donald Trump.

The Risky Business Project is also funded by organizations founded by former New York city Mayor Mike Bloomberg, who recently pumped another $64 million into an anti-coal campaign, and Hank Paulson, former Treasury Secretary to George W. Bush.

Paulson, while a Republican, supports a carbon tax. Bloomberg changed his part identification from Republican to Independent, partly because of his difference with the party over global warming policy.

During the 2016 election, Bloomberg donated more than $23 million to Democrats and liberals, according to (CRP). He was the tenth single-largest political donor last election cycle.

Rhodium Group’s study also got funding from the Skoll Global Threats Fund and the Rockefeller Family Fund. the Rockefeller group promotes global warming programs, and even admitted to funding media outlets claiming ExxonMobil tried to cover-up climate science.

GAO conducted its audit of national-scale climate studies over nearly two years, but claimed only two recent studies met their criteria — the Steyer-funded study and one put out by the Obama administration EPA in 2015.

Dr. Roger Pielke, Jr., a University of Colorado professor, called out GAO’s study over Twitter for relying heavily on Steyer-funded research and for conflating weather events with climate change.

  1. The public naivete on this “non-issue” is stunning, but is not really surprising sometimes in light of the constant pablum around the “pseudo-science” drivel that has very smart people believing in this junk! Al Gore sure is the huckster-extraordinaire of this century.

    • Actually it’s more about controlling every aspect of our lives from what we live in to what we wear to what food we eat and how much. It’s far scarier than most people even imagine. If the climate hucksters get their way, most of us will live in hovels while they live in their castles on the hill, they will wear silks and furs while we wear homespun (one outfit a year), and they will eat lavishly, what they want when they want it, while we get a bowl of gruel a day. No meat, animals contribute to the carbon footprint. Unfortunately our uneducated, indoctrinated progeny for the past couple generations have been absorbing all this irresponsible rhetoric and diatribe and believing every last syllable of it. They have no clue what they are actually buying into and won’t until it’s too late.
