Gov. Scott reacts to vicious Saturday Night Live smear against Vermont

This article by David LaChance originally appeared Oct. 7 in the Brattleboro Reformer.

BENNINGTON — Vermont’s status as the second whitest state in the union made it the target of a Saturday Night Live skit about a neo-Confederate group looking for a new home — a bit of comedy that’s drawn a more serious response from Gov. Phil Scott.

In the skit, “Jim,” one of the leaders of a group called the “League of the South,” played by SNL cast member Beck Bennett, argues that the time has come for the group to leave the South. “It’s been over a year since we neo-Confederates marched on Charlottesville, and things haven’t gotten better,” he says. “More foreigners coming in, more strangers who don’t respect our way of life. We’re losing our culture, and I will not sit quietly.”

“I have a plan, a grand vision,” he says. “If they’re going to keep coming here, then we’re going to go someplace else. Our own place. For our own people! No immigrants, no minorities, An agrarian community where everyone lives in harmony. Because every single person is white.”

A group member, played by episode host Adam Driver, raises his hand. “Yeah, I know that place. That sounds like Vermont,” he says, to laughter from the studio audience.

  1. Nowhere in the skit did I hear the claim that Vermonters are racist – the claim is they are mostly White! So did the Gov. make that mental leap the Libs have been grooming the populace for – that to be White is to be racist? Sure seems to have worked on him, at least.

  2. Couldn’t miss the final dig re Subarus, the poor man’s “Jeep”. Just what the Vermont redneck needs for year round transpo on all the neglected roadways.

Might could be why Scott’s honker went out of joint.

    • “Couldn’t miss the final dig re Subarus, the poor man’s “Jeep””

Living in Vermont is just like owning a Jeep.

Agree with the comment below by Mr. Allen it’s a riot, first SNL skit I’ve seen in years.

  3. I’ve watched it five times now and can’t stop laughing! It’s such a great poke at the sanctimonious liberals who are making this state morally and financially impossible to live in. The skit had to be written by the same person(s) as the woke jeans skit. There may still be hope for SNL.

  4. As Gov. Scott does damage control Vermont continues to auger in ….

“Out-of-staters are moving to Vermont to retire, to vacation and to pursue a way of life not possible in other parts of the country. These new residents tend to be well-educated, politically savvy and environmentally aware. To many of these people, including myself, a Vermont resident for only five years, hunting is an anachronism and not part of modern life. These “new” Vermonters will slowly begin to reshape the ethical, political and fiscal landscape of our community with their beliefs, voting practices and dollars”.

  5. Vermont’s status as the second whitest state in the union BFD!

VT Our own place. For our own people! No immigrants, no minorities, an agrarian community where everyone lives in harmony. Because every
single person is “white.” Isn’t this so sweet.

Hey Governor, these are some more of you new Liberal Friends I bet all your Progressive DemocRATs in the state house thought it was hilarious!

Liberals and they want to run the Country, now that’s funny.

    • Come on Keith…you have given us more comedy during the primary than Saturday Night Live has in many years!

Are you knocking Scott because you are still supporting Christine..

  6. Sounds good to me. Pancakes on the porch, apple crisp, covered ridges, drive around in an old truck and wave to folks. But the dogs with bandanas, that’s a flatlander idea so their Golden retrievers won’t get shot during deer season.

  7. Well, Vermont hasn’t had any terrorist attacks yet, either. But regardless of the supposed ‘few’ minorities, a number of Black Lives Matter/I Hate America activists have managed to infiltrate.
Hmmm, I kind of like their version of Vermont “An agrarian community where everyone lives in harmony. Because every single person is white.” Note that ‘Everyone Lives in Harmony’ part. If that keeps out the terrorists, the MS 13 folks, cops getting assassinated, riots on Church Street and store fronts robbed and broken into, overturned cars and the burning down of the community – Hey! I am just fine with that version!!!

  8. I’m surprised that the governor doesn’t know how his fellow brethren of the Left operate,if it isn’t the woman card it’s the race card.

Ironic how the Democrats are the party of Jim Crow and the KKK and they would like to have people think that they weren’t,a bit of revisionist history on behalf the Left.
