Letters to legislators: Cynthia Browning removed from House tax committee

Editor’s note: This is part of TNR’s Letters to Legislators Series. It is written in response to House Speaker Mitzi Johnson’s decision to remove Rep. Cynthia Browning from her position on the House tax committee.

Dear Cynthia,

Your actions inspired me to come to your defense. We do not share the same party, but political parties are secondary to me, as I perceive they are to you.

It is disturbing to me how we as a sovereign state and nation are so easily manipulated like sheep to the slaughter for a perceived crisis. And it seems rare but noteworthy when someone such as yourself speaks to the integrity of our institutions when those you align with would merely take advantage of the situation, seizing it as an opportunity.

You seem to recognize your obligation more than most for preserving individual rights and personal liberty. While many others spend our liberty like a currency that can easily be replenished, you, on the other hand, have recognized that the excuse of crisis is often just a tool of advantage. Thank you, Cynthia.

You stand taller because of what you stand for, not who you stand on!

I have watched your party’s obsession for climate solutions in recent years. It is is seemingly arrogant and unwilling at times to even listen to people with concerns for their livelihood. It’s really not climate, it’s about what is being done to us in the name of a climate crisis that we object to!

I do not know why you were removed from your committee assignment, but you appear to have been attacked from someone behind the shield of the COVID-19 crisis — perhaps a safe haven for those who would tread on individual rights and personal liberty.

You should be proud of where you stand. I hope your constituents realize how fortunate they are to have someone representing them who takes her oath seriously and demonstrates her allegiance to their representation so well!

  1. Masterfully spoken…How about a TNR interview w/Ms Browning -…if state Pravda affiliate VPR can interrogate and attempt to guilt and shame Ms Browning – and allow legislative ‘con’tributer(s) to speak for her – surely TNR crack team of writers can give this VT hero a fair shake?

  2. Mitzi had one thing right. The best thing for Vermont would be for all legislators to stay home

  3. Lynn, I beg to differ, this crisis if far from “prceived”, it’s. VERY REAL!!! I respectfully suggest you wake up an social distance or better yet, do a voluntary 14 day self quarantine.

    • You “respectfully suggest …”? Your snarky comment lacks any respect for the author’s opinion at all, and it seems to be a pattern in your comments. You come across as 14 year old who thinks anyone who doesn’t think or act exactly like you do is an idiot. Take a chill pill and follow your own suggestion.

    • I respectively suggest, Mike, you stay under your protective rock until given the ‘All Clear’ signal in a couple of years.

      • She wanted a vote by less than a quorum, to affirm the Speakers authority to vote about anything she wanted by less than a legally requiredquorum.

Maybe call in just the dems/progs, and not the Republicans.

        Pass anything the Progs wanted

  4. So let me understand this, Cynthia Browning stood up to Vermont’s Speaker,
for trying to slide legislation through without a majority.

So now Mitzi ” Pelosi ” Johnson is trying to ostracize Cynthia for questioning
    something that was wrong ??

I hope Democrats really understand that this gaggle of ” fools ” they have leading
our state into collapse, they need to go before it’s too late.

    Wake up people

    • She should have been gone a long time ago. She and a bunch of other out-of-staters. They are destroying our once great state,
