NYT keeps readers in the dark on Bernie Sanders’ population control comments

By Peter Hasson

The New York Times is keeping readers in the dark about Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders’ embrace of population control, including abortion, as a means of combating climate change.

Sanders was asked during CNN’s climate town hall on Wednesday whether he would support measures to curb population growth in order to protect the climate. The Vermont senator answered yes, and said using taxpayer dollars to fund abortion abroad, “especially in poor countries around the world,” is something he “very, very strongly” supports.

Sanders’ endorsement of population control drew a sharp backlash, and was covered by some establishment outlets like the BBC, including right-of-center media.

“Let’s just state for the record: talking about needing ‘population control’ through ABORTION for the sake of CLIMATE is talking about EUGENICS,” CNN host S.E. Cupp commented on Twitter. “The fact that @BernieSanders is willing to entertain this vile idea is not only disgusting, it should be disqualifying,” she added.

“By advocating taxpayer-funded abortion in ‘poor countries,’ Sanders not only exaggerates the environmental threat of overpopulation but also displays grotesque chauvinism in his demand that the world comply with the West’s determination to exterminate our future,” wrote National Review’s Alexandra DeSanctis.

Despite the uproar over Sanders’ endorsement of population control, the New York Times did not mention Sanders’ comments once in its coverage of the CNN town hall. The paper published several stories on the town hall, but none that mentioned Sanders’ population control remarks.

The Times did not return an email inquiring on the paper’s lack of coverage of Sanders’ comments.

  1. If humans are the main culprits, why not have fewer humans?

Abortion for free for everyone? Of course.
However, it would be better to act BEFORE the fact.
We should not reduce the innocent flora and fauna, but reduce the guilty human population by a factor of ten to reduce human impact on climate.

One way to do that, and have an anti-poverty program as well, is to give $2500 to a young woman in a poorer countries to have a minor operation FOR FREE, so she can no longer have children.
About $20 billion per year would treat 8 million young women each year.
They likely would live in countries with per capita incomes of about $500/y or less
    Vermonters would not qualify.
They would become rich in their countries.
    All is voluntary.

The knee jerk reaction often is “government eugenics”, etc.
I want this to be a private effort.
People would get a US income tax deduction, if they contributed to PRIVATE funds.
Keep the government out of it.
Make it a grassroots people to people program.

The rich get their tax deductions anyway.
This time it would be for a good cause.
Helping young women in poorer countries become relatively well off.

Population in the world is currently (2019-2020) growing at a rate of around 1.08% per year (down from 1.10% in 2018, 1.12% in 2017 and 1.14% in 2016); 1% of 7.5 billion is 75 million/y. The growth rate has decreased by nearly half since 1968 (2.08%).

“The funny thing about people who advocate reducing the population to save the planet is that they always want to start by killing babies. They never seem to see themselves as members of the surplus population in need of extermination. What a strange coincidence.” Matt Walsh

    My program is pro active.
No one gets pregnant in the first place.
    No one gets killed.
Local young woman would be a lot richer in their own countries
    No reason to leave.
    Fewer refugees.
All is private, people to people.
    Government is not involved.

  2. Mr Sandinista has simply gone off the rails. One should not be surprised – the progressives would turn on their mother in the name of their socialist agenda. I am shaking my head and need not say a word more word about this complete idiot

  3. The Left is always in the ” Dark “, they only tell their minions what they want to hear,
then you have Socialist Sanders showing his ignorance again stating non-sense just
    to get a vote !!

Just your tax dollars at work, paying Sanders a paycheck for nothing accomplished
and now he feels we need to support abortions in third world countries !!

    What an Idiot !!
