In considering the mounting troubles that the Obama Administration is facing, one is reminded of the old saying “When it rains, it pours.” First the Obama Administration failed in its efforts to convince the American public that the world would come to an end if the sequester budget “cuts” were allowed to take effect. He then switched gears and tried to get the public bedind his gun control agenda. Judging by the actions of some Senate Democrats, that public relations battle was won by the NRA. Then there is this “Botched ObamaCare rollout tops Democratic fears for 2014 election.” This fear has prompted at least one retirement, which could put the Democrats Senate mafjority in jepordy fro 2014. Add to this trend the Benghazi scandal and you alreay have enough of a mess. Now there is even more piling on as relevlations of an IRS scandal appear to implicate Washington officials:
And just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse for the Obama administration, something new comes along.
From the Washington Post:
Internal Revenue Service officials in Washington and at least two other offices were involved in the targeting of conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status, making clear the effort reached well beyond the branch in Cincinnati that was initially blamed, according to documents obtained by The Washington Post.
IRS officials at the agency’s Washington headquarters sent queries to conservative groups asking about their donors and other aspects of their operations, while officials in the El Monte and Laguna Niguel offices in California sent similar questionnaires to tea party-affiliated groups.
Okay, so it appears the Washington Post report contradicts the IRS official who claimed last week that the political targeting was done by “low-level” staffers in Cincinnati.
Of course, it’s important to note that the official who made this claim, Lois Lerner, is the head of the Cincinnati-based IRS office that oversees tax-exempt groups. Considering that her office is heavily involved in the scandal, some of her staffers must also be involved.
While all this is going on, keep in mind that it was about this time in 2009 when the Tea Party was getting ramped up with a focus on Obamacare. That resulted in a political earthquake during the 2010 elections. The IRS’s actions, coupled with the Benghazi coverup, the gun grab attempt, etc., could end up being major factors that launch Tea Party 2.0 just in time for the 2014 elections.
