Roper: New Hampshire taxes less, provides better services than Vermont

By Rob Roper

The financial services site WalletHub recently did a state-by-state analysis of taxpayer “return on investment” (ROI) — who gets a good bang for their government-confiscated buck. And, here we get another Vermont versus New Hampshire comparison that we hope will teach our politicians a lesson or two.

Overall, New Hampshire ranked No. 1 in the nation for good ROI. Vermont ranked 45, the fifth worst. According to WalletHub, the analysis covered twenty-five key metrics and five categories of service vs. total taxes paid per capita.

On that total taxes line, New Hampshire was No. 3 (no income or sales tax), and Vermont 48th (just about every tax under the sun).

But, when it comes to providing government services Vermont comes in fourth. So, take that, New Hampshire. We may pay a lot, but we get a lot and don’t leave our most vulnerable citizens out to dry. Not so fast — New Hampshire ranked even better at second nationwide.

Vermont and New Hampshire scored respectively: education – 9/16; health – 8/2; safety – 1/3; economy – 24/4; infrastructure and pollution – 16/13.

Just goes to show that, yes, we can do more with less. And, no, our elected officials in Montpelier are not being good steward of a whole lot of our money.

  1. Well instead of being a sheepeople start fighting everyday, at every place, in any political climate. Get out on the front lines and stand your ground – what the hell, doing what your currently doing sure the hell ain’t working. Good lord, you should know most of these progressives are pussies yet no one tells them to shut the — up. Don’t be a sheepeople, be the sheep dog my man.

  2. Depending on where you live in VT it only takes minutes or a few hours and you’re in NH.

(just about every tax under the sun) and they want more ………..Why such a drastic swing ??

Oh wait, it’s Vermont’s Progressive Democrats Running ( ruining ) the State. Wake up people
    before it’s too late !!

  3. Less government is always better than more government
Less taxes is always better than more taxes.
The main reason Vermont has all the government sponsored social programs is for VOTE GETTING by Dems and Progs.

That is the reason/excuse for bringing in refugees.
Federal money for more government and vote getting from refugees and various do-gooders.

That is the reason/excuse for EB-5
Federal money to “investors” and vote getting from the people who work at Jay Peak, etc.

That is the reason/excuse for single payer
Federal money for more government and vote getting from beneficiaries.

  4. Vermont has been going ‘Communist’ with our money for quite a while. NH has yet to catch up; but catch up, they will, as more and more libs from Boston move to avoid MA taxes and commute. NH will be destroyed, just as Vermont is being destroyed at the hands of Democrats/Socialists/Communists/Progressives. They are one and the same.
