State Headliners: UVM top ‘pot school’ in the nation

By Guy Page

Princetonreview.com has ranked the University of Vermont as the No. 1 school of pot in the nation.

In its annual, book-length study published this month, Princeton Review said it asked 140,000 students at 385 selected American colleges and universities 80 questions, including “How widely is marijuana used at your school?” UVM ranked first, with Pitzer College in California, University of Rhode Island, and Wesleyan University in Connecticut.

The three least-likely-to-inhale colleges are the U.S. Air Force, Army and Navy service academies, followed by four religion-based schools: the College of the Ozarks in Missouri, Thomas Aquinas College in California, Brigham Young University in Utah, and Wheaton College in Illinois.

Marlboro College (9th) and Champlain College (14th) reportedly also were highly ranked. Smoking marijuana is not permitted on the UVM campus per university regulations.

Meanwhile in the nexus of Vermont, marijuana, and education: nurses can earn continuing education units study a ‘health care uses of cannabis’ curriculum promoted by RadicalHealth.com while attending an August 23-25 weekend retreat in Stowe. The event was published on the Heady Vermont marijuana advocacy website, which has recently announced it will begin a regional print publication.

  1. I wish the public could read the tragic & heartbreaking emails I receive each week from parents whose kids have suffered egregious psychiatric disorders (bipolar one, schizophrenia..) MDD all related to the use of today’s high potency pot products. Why isn’t there at the very least warnings on each pot product ( as Canadian pot dispensaries must mark on every product sold) – use of cannabis can lead to severe mental health disorders including psychosis and schizophrenia)? Our young people DO NOT know the risks, over time, using pot can lead to altered mental health. What kind of society allows such a mind-altering drug unleashed without warnings? What kind of country have we become to ignore the rapid rise in mental illnesses ( especially in young ppl) without examining the root causes related to the proliferation of marijuana glorification, legalization & normalization? The abundance of scientific studies clearly illustrate the associated development of mental illness yet the public remains duped & brainwashed.

  2. There is plenty of work decreasing stigma around addiction in order to help folks heal and go on to live health happy lives. Why is there such crushing stigma around pointing out the downside of 1000s of 18 year olds being exposed to second hand marijuana smoke in their dorms? or pointing out the harm to Vermont businesses of increased marijuana smoking as we have seen now in Brattleboro per VTdigger and in Northampton, MA? To the point shop owners a scared to mention their name to reporters , even as they report they are watching their decades old thriving businesses crumble? Aren’t we better than this in Vermont?

  3. Pathetic! Recreation used to mean bowling, playing baseball, tennis, going to the beach, playing a game. Now recreation means getting stoned out of your mind. Is that what these people went to college for? Wouldn’t it be nice if they focused on getting an education, doing it soberly and instead of attending a drug-fest on 4/20 (Saturday this year) they would take a break from the books and do a bit of recreating the way it used to be.

  4. what a surprise–NOT
“We don’t care what UVM don’t allow,
    Gonna toke our doobies anyhow”
