From a VT Right-to-Life Update:
The House Human Services Committee will begin deliberations on doctor-prescribed suicide legislation next week on Wednesday, April 10th. While the Committee will be taking up S.77 as passed by the Senate, we anticipate that pro-suicide legislators will work to restore the language creating an Oregon-style, State-sanctioned suicide law.
We have also been informed that the hearings on April 10th will be a joint hearing of the House Human Services Committee and the House Judiciary Committee and that the hearing will begin in the morning. Please come to the State House if you are able to attend, and be sure to wear a sticker opposing doctor-prescribed suicide.
After the joint hearing, the House Human Services Committee will take more testimony and we expect the deliberations to go on for a few days with the possibility of yet another public hearing.
You will receive action alerts over the next several days with specific requests so that you can help defeat doctor-prescribed suicide legislation. Timing is critical and so is messaging. We will alert you when it is the best time to act and provide specific messages and instructions. Please also check your email on a regular basis as may unfold very quickly.
In the meantime, please prepare by having the contact information of your own Representative(s) handy for calling and e-mailing them. You can find out who represents you in the Vermont House of Representatives at this link: http://www.leg.state.vt.us/legdir/FindMyMember.cfm
